The Internship
Assistance Project comes as critical tool in
cooperation with USAID to fulfill one of PalTrade's
key goals of fostering international business
practices and standards among professionals, firms
and business organizations in Palestine. This
project's main objective is to improve enterprise
competitiveness through promoting best employment
practices based on employee qualifications and job
specifications.
Program
overview:
The program had started its pilot phase in the year 2002 and due to its outstanding success and its vital role is now entering the second phase aiming to locate training opportunities to university graduates in Palestine based on identified private sector needs. The program aims to support private sector companies and institutions through a 50% cost-sharing scheme for each of the six month cycle for a total of three cycles. This project simultaneously creates opportunities for graduates to integrate in practical work environment through creating direct contact between trainees and employers, which ultimately should increases efficiency and effectiveness of private firms.
Objectives:

Contributing to a lower training costs as means of decreasing the unemployment rates among new graduates.

Enhance firm's competitiveness through maximum utilization and retention of existing qualified graduates within companies' operational framework.

Enhance individual's (new graduates) understanding of work place environments, ethics and practical work place experience.

Gain practical insight of private sector's assessment and needs from academic outputs and needed specializations.

Private sector firms (1st priority):

Must be legally registered entities.

Must be ready to cover 50% of the intern's monthly training fees.

Are committed to provide on-the-job training experience within a conductive and healthy working environment that will add to the development of the intern.
Private sector Institutions (2nd priority):
whose application requirements are the same as private sector companies above.

IAP Pilot
Phase Accomplishments:

90 graduates benefited from the pilot phase in west bank and Gaza
-
Almost 80% of interns were either retained within their companies or found other jobs due to their enhanced training experience.
