As the
National Trade
Development
Organization, PalTrade
is the private sector
institution with direct
mandate in trade
development and
promotion. As such,
PalTrade has been a
member of the Gaza
withdrawal technical
committees, and made
important contributions
to the reports to the
AHLC on trade
development and
facilitation and other
related forums. PalTrade
is a founder and member
of the Private Sector
Coordinating Council (PSCC),
a consortium of all
major private sector
institutions, and an
important partner of
industry and service
associations. PalTrade
was the private sector
representative
institution in
negotiations on movement
and access during and
following the Israeli
withdrawal from Gaza
Strip.
As part
of the World Bank
project "Facilitating
Trade Flows between WBGS
and Israel and other
projects, PalTrade has
been monitoring and
reporting on trade
activity at Al-Montar/
Karni terminal since
August 2005, PalTrade
also follows up and
collects data on other
terminals/border
crossings in the Gaza
Strip. Based on the
physical presence of
PalTrade employees at
AlMontar/ Karni
terminal, PalTrade has
established a solid
professional
relationship with the
terminals' authorities,
which has facilitated
collecting and
processing firsthand
information and trends.
Terminal statistics in
Gaza Strip have been
collected in full
collaboration with the
terminals' authorities;
mainly representative
offices of Border &
Passage General Dept.,
Ministry Of Finance,
Customs Directorate,
Ministry of Civil
Affairs and Ministry of
National Economy.
PalTrade
(funded by USAID) has
developed the
"Palestinian Terminals
Database" in response to
the increasing demand of
international and local
organizations for
regular and customized
cargo movement data,
combined with their and
need for updated
statistics and trends.
